I know it has been some time since my last blog and I appoligize. I have been very busy with all the groups traveling here from United States. We have had in the past 6 weeks about 30 plus groups. I meet almost every group at the airport and send them to their destinations. I spent 2 weeks in Jarabacoa working with 2 groups completing houses from last year and 2 more new houses. We completes the 2 houses from last year with new roofs and floors. We also stuccoed the front walls of each of the homes and then painted the houses. The next week we started construction on 2 more houses and completed all the walls only. We worked on 3 other peoples homes by adding rooms, a porch and painted them also. Last year this group installed a greenhouse and this year after much success with the greenhouses we cleaned them out to get ready for new crops to be planted. Then we had a little time left before the group went back to the United States so we painted the school. I worked one week in a preschool with a group from Florida. We had to scrape and paint the entire school with only 4 people and myself. Then one day we had this terrible storm and another group that was working close by couldn´t work so they came by us. In all we had that day 12 people working with us to complete most of the job. Last week we had a big meeting with the churches from Province 9 and spent most of the time assisting whereever needed. It has been a great time working with the groups and we are expecting many more groups. I am also working with the Womans group from the Episcopal church starting new bussiness and empowering woman. Next month we should have the sewing shop open and making Stoles for Clergy.

Sé que ha pasado mucho tiempo desde mi último blog y appoligize. He estado muy ocupado con todos los grupos que viajan aquí desde Estados Unidos. Hemos tenido en las últimas 6 semanas aproximadamente 30 grupos más. Me encuentro con casi todos los grupos en el aeropuerto y les envío a sus destinos. Pasé 2 semanas en Jarabacoa trabajar con 2 grupos completando casas del año pasado y 2 casas nuevas más. Nos completa el 2 casas del año pasado con nuevos techos y pisos. También estucado de las paredes frontales de cada una de las casas y luego pintamos las casas. La próxima semana empezamos la construcción de 2 casas más y terminamos sólo todas las paredes. Hemos trabajado en otras 3 casas de las personas mediante la adición de habitaciones, un porche y los pintamos también. El año pasado este grupo instaló un invernadero y este año después de mucho éxito con los invernaderos que les limpió para estar listo para nuevos cultivos para ser plantados. Luego tuvimos un poco de tiempo antes de que el grupo volvió a los Estados Unidos por lo que pintamos la escuela. Yo trabajé una semana en un preescolar con un grupo de Florida. Hemos tenido que raspar y pintar toda la escuela con sólo 4 personas y yo. Hasta que un día tuvimos la terrible tormenta y otro grupo que estaba trabajando cerca no podía trabajar así que vinieron por nosotros. En todo lo que tuvimos que día a 12 personas que trabajan con nosotros para completar la mayor parte del trabajo. La semana pasada tuvimos una gran reunión con las iglesias de la provincia de 9 y pasamos la mayor parte del tiempo ayudando dondequiera que sea necesario. Ha sido un gran tiempo de trabajo con los grupos y estamos esperando muchos más grupos. También estoy trabajando con el grupo de Womans de la Iglesia Episcopal de partida nueva bussiness y una mujer poderosa. El mes que viene deberíamos tener el taller de costura abierta y haciendo estolas para el Clero.

GEMN Conference in Bogota

I just returned from the GEMN conference in Bogota Colombia . We were there for a week long conference. The GEMN stands for Global Episcopal Mission Network and we had many different countries from Latin America represented along with people from the United States. We had many workshops and guest speakers telling us all about mission work in the field and also about financial and economic sustainability. They also spoke about different projects that they were working on and the ones that worked the best. There were also workshops on how to plan projects and make budgets for them so that they would be successful. Everday there was time for Bible reflection and how the Bible passage pertained to what was happening in our mission lives. We also traveled to 3 different sites. I went to 2 of the three. One was to a church in Soacha where the womens group were helping many other families that were displaced from their homes in other parts of the country to move to Soacha and establish new lives. It was very moving and inspirational to hear the women speak about what was happening in their lives and how they were trying to move things in a very positive way to making better lives for themselves. The other site I went to was a ranch in the top of a mountain. Bogota is about 8600 feet above sea level and we had to go to a ranch that was another 1500 feet up. We rode in 2 buses to get to the top of the mountain but we didn´t make it that far. The one bus broke down so we had to hike the rest of the way up to the church and ranch and it was a couple hundred feet up, but some of us made it to the top to see the ranch and the church and it was a beautiful sight. The people of this area are all farmers and very self sufficient. After our short visit we then had to hike back down to the waiting new bus to take us back to Bogota. On Ascension Thursday we had the Presiding Bishop visit with us for our church service, it was very moving and a beautiful service. At the conference we had plenty of time to make new friends and for most of us to share our spiritual journeys. Thanks to all who worked so hard to put this conference together and for all the help from The Episcopal Church Center.

 Acabo de regresar de la  conferencia GEMN en Bogotá Colombia. Estábamos allí en una conferencia de una semana de duración. El GEMN significa Red Global Misión Episcopal y tuvimos muchos países diferentes de América Latina representados junto con la gente de los Estados Unidos. Tuvimos muchos talleres y oradores invitados hablaron todo acerca de la obra misionera en el campo y también acerca de la sostenibilidad económica y financiera. También hablaron sobre los diferentes proyectos que estaban trabajando y los mejores trabajados. También hubo talleres sobre la forma de planificar los proyectos y hacer presupuestos para que ellos tuvieran éxito. Cada dia hubo tiempo para la reflexión bíblica y el pasaje de la Biblia se refería a lo que estaba sucediendo en nuestra vida en la misión. También viajamos a 3 sitios diferentes. Fui a 2 de los tres. Uno de ellos fue a una iglesia en Soacha, donde el grupo mujeres estaban ayudando a muchas otras familias que fueron desplazadas de sus hogares en otras partes del país para ir a Soacha y establecer una nueva vida. Fue muy conmovedor e inspirador escuchar a las mujeres hablar sobre lo que estaba sucediendo en sus vidas y cómo estaban tratando de impulsar las cosas de una manera muy positiva para mejorar sus vidas. Al otro sitio que fui era un rancho en la cima de una montaña. Bogotá es de unos 8.600 metros sobre el nivel del mar y tuvimos que ir a un rancho que era otros 1.500 metros de altura. Nos montamos en 2 autobuses para llegar a la cima de la montaña, cosa que no hacemos tanto. El bus se averió, así que tuvimos que caminar el resto del camino hasta la iglesia y el rancho, fue un par de cientos de metros de altura, pero algunos de nosotros llegamos a la cima para ver el rancho y la iglesia y fue una hermosa vista. Los habitantes de esta zona son los agricultores, muy autosuficiente. Después de nuestra breve visita, tuvimos que caminar de regreso al nuevo autobús esperando para llevarnos de regreso a Bogotá. El jueves de la Ascensión, tuvimos la visita del Obispo Presidente con nosotros para nuestro servicio de la iglesia, fue muy emocionante y un hermoso servicio. En la conferencia tenía un montón de tiempo para hacer nuevos amigos y para que la mayoría de nosotros compartiéramos nuestro camino espiritual. Gracias a todos los que trabajaron tan duro para hacer esta conferencia juntos y por toda la ayuda desde el Centro de la Iglesia Episcopal.
