Jarabacoa

As a follow up on the group that went to Jarabacoa their were 27 young adults along with 8 chaperones. They helped a group of Dominican workers to erect a large greenhouse and by the end of the week they were ready to start planting. They now have 2 large greenhouses where they are growing 2 different kinds of peppers. This will help the community with jobs. Also they built 2 concrete block houses, helped another family add a room on their house and installed a new concrete floor in a 4^th family’s house. On Thursday night the group along with the families had a big fiesta to celebrate family and community working together to make a difference. The group also helped one of the children to pay for her school for the next 4 years so that she would have a chance to go to college. She is 14 years old and was the group’s translator. On Friday the group had a Vacation Bible School day with the children from the community, lots of sports, arts and crafts, games and snacks. Their were about 100 children and everyone had a great day.  The group is looking forward to coming back next year to work with the community. Como seguimiento en el grupo que fue a Jarabacoa sus 27 eran adultos jóvenes, junto con 8 acompañantes. Ellos ayudaron a un grupo de trabajadores dominicanos a construir un gran invernadero y al final de la semana que estaban listos para iniciar la siembra. Ahora tienen 2 grandes invernaderos donde crecen 2 diferentes tipos de pimientos. Esto ayudará a la comunidad con puestos de trabajo. También se construyeron 2 casas de bloques de hormigón, ayudó a otra familia agregar una habitación en su casa e instaló un nuevo suelo de hormigón en la casa de una familia de cuarto. El jueves por la noche el grupo junto con las familias tenían una gran fiesta para celebrar la familia y la comunidad trabajan juntos para hacer una diferencia. El grupo también ayudó a uno de los hijos para pagar su escuela para los próximos 4 años, por lo que tendría la oportunidad de ir a la universidad. Ella tiene 14 años y fue el traductor del grupo. El viernes, el grupo tuvo un día de Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones con los niños de la comunidad, un montón de deportes, artes y artesanías, juegos y meriendas. Su eran alrededor de 100 niños y cada uno tenía un gran día. El grupo está buscando ganas de volver el año que viene a trabajar con la comunidad. This past couple of weeks there has been a lot of activity.  We had a medical team here treating children in one of our poorest communities in Bonao. The Doctor treated about 100 children every day with a staff of nurses and pharmacists. They started every morning with Mass and then headed out to the locations to treat the needs of the children. This one team their were about 20 people and it was split up into 3 groups. One was medical; the other was doing 2 classes of Vacation Bible School and the third group to build a Colmado which is a grocery store. This will give about 5 people jobs. It is a great experience for the groups and the people to make lasting relationships with each other. Most groups come here year after year. Another group was here to start construction of a church; this group consisted of 3 sets of 20 people in each group coming here one week after the other. One group built the forms; the next group bent all the rebar and installed it getting ready for the last group to pour the concrete. By the end of one month the church will be standing but not ready for the congregation. The community will do much of the work until next summer when the group comes back to finish the first floor. We had another group come here to finish the church and school they started a couple of years ago. This time they painted all the classrooms and finished off the project. Next year when they come back they will be working on a new project. We are also trying to open a bakery in another community and we are now working with a company from the United States to set up 2 more water purification systems and repair the other 4 we have.  This past weekend we picked up a group of 35 mostly young adults going to the camp in Jarabacoa where we now have a very large greenhouse employing more people. They will divide up and some will build a wall around the greenhouse for protection and the other part of the group will go into the community to help repair homes. Yesterday we picked up 2 groups of Dentists and Doctors and their staff going to Jimani a total of 25 people. They will spend the week there and treat as many people as they can. This is only a very small part of what is happening here. We are averaging about 6 groups per week with some 20 people in each group. All the groups tell us that they get more out of what they are doing then they ever expected. Come and be part of this growing Diocese!! People helping people!!

Este último par de semanas ha habido mucha actividad. Teníamos un equipo médico de aquí el tratamiento de niños en una de nuestras comunidades más pobres de Bonao. El doctor trató a unos 100 niños todos los días con un personal de enfermeras y farmacéuticos. Empezaron por la mañana con una misa y luego se dirigieron a los lugares para el tratamiento de las necesidades de los niños. Este equipo fue uno de su cerca de 20 personas y se dividen en 3 grupos. Uno de ellos era médico, y el otro estaba haciendo 2 clases de 
 Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones y el tercer grupo para construir un Colmado que es una tienda de comestibles. Esto le dará a la gente alrededor de 5 puestos de trabajo. Es una gran experiencia para los grupos y las personas para establecer relaciones duraderas con los demás. La mayoría de los grupos de venir aquí año tras año. Otro grupo estaba aquí para iniciar la construcción de una iglesia, este grupo consistía en 3 series de 20 personas en cada grupo de venir aquí una semana después de la otra. Un grupo construye las formas, el siguiente grupo se inclinó toda la armadura y la instaló prepara para el último grupo que se vierte el hormigón. Al final de un mes a la iglesia será de pie, pero no está listo para la congregación. La comunidad va a hacer mucho del trabajo hasta el próximo verano, cuando el grupo regresa para terminar la primera planta. Habíamos venido aquí a otro grupo para terminar la iglesia y la escuela que comenzó hace un par de años atrás. Esta vez pintaron todas las aulas y que remata el proyecto. El año que viene cuando vuelvan van a estar trabajando en un nuevo proyecto. También estamos tratando de abrir una panadería en otra comunidad y ahora estamos trabajando con una compañía de Estados Unidos para establecer más de 2 sistemas de purificación de agua y reparar los otros 4 que tenemos. Este pasado fin de semana hemos recogido un grupo de 35 adultos en su mayoría jóvenes que van al campo en Jarabacoa, donde ahora tenemos un efecto invernadero muy grande que emplea a más personas. Ellos dividen y algunos construir un muro alrededor del invernadero para la protección y la otra parte del grupo irá a la comunidad para ayudar a los hogares de reparación. Ayer recogimos 2 grupos de dentistas y médicos y su personal va a Jimaní con un total de 25 personas. Ellos pasarán la semana allí y tratar a las personas como que les sea posible. Esta es sólo una parte muy pequeña de lo que está sucediendo aquí. Estamos con un promedio de seis grupos por semana con unas 20 personas en cada grupo. Todos los grupos nos dicen que sacar más provecho de lo que están haciendo, entonces lo que esperaban. Ven y se parte de esta diócesis cada vez más! Gente ayudando a la gente!
