Clean Water

The last couple of weeks have been very busy traveling the Dominican Republic checking the churches and schools water supplies. We had someone here from Water Missions International and the group of us were checking the sites and what was needed to give the people in the community clean drinking water. The biggest problem was a source of water on an everyday basis. Many of the sites the water was very sporadic. Some of the water supplies we checked either needed to use a chlorinator or needed a complete water filtering system. Right now we have 4 complete sites with none working properly due to lack of water supply. We are now looking into digging wells in those locations. The idea is to supply as many people in the surrounding community with clean drinking water to prevent the spread of disease. We are going to set up one unit in the Diocesan Office to teach everyone here how to use the system and what is needed to maintain it. The units need to be tested every day to check the chlorine levels. Education is also very important, we need to explain the health benefits to the community so that they accept the change in taste of the water. Once we have the one here in the Diocesan office functioning and everyone understands how it works we can then start soliciting for money to install many other filter systems throughout the Episcopal churches and schools. Many of the Barrios have no safe drinking water which leads to many illnesses and even death. We need to help the people of these barrios to have safe clean drinking water.

 El último par de semanas han estado muy ocupados viajando por el control de República Dominicana, las iglesias y los suministros de agua escuelas. Teníamos a alguien aquí de Water Missions International y el grupo de nosotros estábamos registrando los sitios y lo que se necesita para darle a la gente en el agua potable de la comunidad limpia. El mayor problema era una fuente de agua sobre una base diaria. Muchos de los sitios el agua estaba muy esporádica. Algunos de los suministros de agua que está marcado, ya sea necesario utilizar un clorador o cuando sea necesario un sistema completo de agua de filtración. En este momento tenemos 4 sitios completos con ninguno funciona correctamente debido a la falta de suministro de agua. Ahora estamos en la excavación de pozos en esos lugares. La idea es suministrar a las personas, como muchos en la comunidad circundante con agua potable para prevenir la propagación de la enfermedad. Vamos a crear una unidad en la Oficina Diocesana para enseñar a todos los presentes cómo utilizar el sistema y lo que se necesita para mantenerla. Las unidades deben ser a prueba todos los días para verificar los niveles de cloro. La educación es también muy importante, tenemos que explicar los beneficios de salud a la comunidad para que acepten el cambio en el sabor del agua. Una vez que tenemos el uno aquí en el funcionamiento y la Oficina Diocesana de todo el mundo entiende cómo funciona entonces podemos empezar a solicitar dinero para instalar muchos sistemas de filtración a través de las otras iglesias episcopales y las escuelas. Muchos de los Barrios no tienen agua potable que conduce a muchas enfermedades e incluso la muerte. Tenemos que ayudar a la gente de estos barrios para tener agua potable limpia.
